Quetzaltenango, also known as Xela, is the second largest city of Guatemala, because of its industrial and commercial activity.

Xela is characterized by attractions like: Cerro del Baúl, Cerro Siete Orejas, Cerro Quemado, hot water baths in Almolonga, las Delicias, Fuentes Georginas, Laguna de Chicabal and others. Every September, Xela hosts the Central American Independence Fair, during which many visitors attend numerous activities like games, parades, shows, election of the Independence Queen and such. Every October 10th, Xela celebrates the day of the Virgen del Rosario, patron saint of the municipality. This festivity includes celebrations throughout the month. It is a very special date for Catholics..
